About Us

In 2004, Omar Isidoro Rodríguez and Dawn Haughey began having one-night art shows at Omar’s house in Edinburg.  His house would be transformed into “ManicHaus” due to the rush to hide all the furniture to make “gallery” space for paintings and sculpture.  After 3 years of presenting these shows, Omar and Dawn decided to look around for a more permanent space.

In late 2007, they were introduced to David Weisfeld and soon became a tenant at the old downtown building on North Main and Maple in McAllen, Texas.  Built in 1927, the new home for ManicHaus was once a TV repair shop and a church.

Today, ManicHaus is one of a small number of art spaces dedicated to presenting modern art and other events.  ManicHaus is an art space, so expect art exhibitions, music events, film screenings, workshops, art classes for children and adults and there’s even a shop that sells books, designer toys and various forms of art by local, national and international artists.

There is always a new art exhibit the first Friday of each month.  ManicHaus is also an official venue of the McAllen Artwalk and is a grant recipient of the 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council.

Omar has recently become a board member of the McAllen Arts Council and hopes to contribute to the ever expanding Arts scene in McAllen and the Valley.

Dawn Haughey is moving away from her origins as a sculptor and performance artists and is concentrating on composing and singing.

Thank you for visiting us online and we hope to see you in person!
