ManicHaus, Modern Art Space, is proud to present “Pillars and Brackets,” a solo exhibition by Houston artist, Lawrence Lange, on view at ManicHaus in McAllen, from September 4 to September 18, 2009.  A reception will be held during from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on September 4, 2009. ManicHaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in McAllen.  Admission is free.

“The act of making becomes an inscription of memory. Not unlike the pen etching paper and soaking ink into the surface, or the pencil incising and leaving it’s mark behind,” Lange said.

Born and raised in Chicago Illinois Lawrence Lange has possessed a strong passion for art, design, architecture and theory since a young age.  Following a number of years of education, travel, and work, Lawrence struggled with the rigidity of working in the 9-5 design world and began painting abstract works as a means to reconcile this struggle.

Always interested in the process and method of creation his work has become strongly sequence or process driven. With a background in architecture, the elements of line, scale, and weight were the primary means of composition.  Utilizing a limited set of tools he began painting with wire and blades as a means to investigate the merger of line and form. This work is the culmination of that investigation.

Gallery hours are: Tuesday through Saturday, 1 to 6pm.  Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@gmail.com for more information.  ManicHaus is a 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council grant recipient.  Art classes are available as well.
