Jessica Monroe “When Reason Rhymes” August 13-27, 2010

"Sunflower 7" ©2010 by Jessica Monroe

ManicHaus, Modern Art Space, is proud to present a solo exhibition by painter, Jessica Monroe, on view at ManicHaus in McAllen, from August 13 through 27, 2010. An opening reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2010. ManicHaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in McAllen. Admission is free.

“My work deals with the balance of complementary forces (ex. male/female, structure/non-structure, similarity/difference) which is fundamental in the nature of all things,” Monroe said.  “In these paintings, I explore the relationship between the structural grid and the more fluid “characters” depicted in the image. The grid mirrors our own cultural need for structure though language, social hierarchies and networks, while the less defined movement of light and color represents those aspects of life both integral and indescribable.

New gallery hours are: Saturdays, Noon to 6pm, by appointment and during special events. Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@gmail.com for more information. ManicHaus is a 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council grant recipient.

“A Clark State of Mind” Kirk Clark, April 2-23, 2010

hidden connections

MARCH 20, 2010 — McAllen, TX: ManicHaus, Modern Art Space, is proud to present “A Clark State of Mind,” a solo exhibition by artist, Kirk Clark, will be on view at ManicHaus in McAllen, from April 2-23, 2010. An opening reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on April 2, 2010. ManicHaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in McAllen. Admission is free.

“I hope my art touches a curious spot in your consciousness,” Clark said.

Kirk Clark was born in McAllen, Texas, to Charles and Dorothy Clark. His parents’ enthusiastic collecting, and involvement in the contemporary art scene, greatly influenced their son. In 1956, as a ten-year-old boy, Kirk began his artistic journey when he created his first oil painting titled, “The Lone Cypress”.
Kirk studied sculpture and drawing in the mid 60s and graduated from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. The variety of mediums he has experimented with, are a feast for the eyes and a source of inspiration. Kirk’s unique work, ranging from one of kind drawings, ornate totemic sculptures, monoprints, and jewelry, have been featured in galleries and universities in Illinois, New Mexico, South Texas, and Mexico and have captivated collectors throughout Mexico and the United States. Writing poetry in the ancient Chinese style of Bagua, compliments Kirk’s artistic passion. Kirk is married to Jeri, and father to sons Charlie, Alex, Daniel, and daughter, Anne. All are great blessings in his life.
New gallery hours are: Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 6pm; and Saturdays by appointment. Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@gmail.com for more information. ManicHaus is a 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council grant recipient.

linger-on

MARCH 2, 2010 — McAllen, TX: ManicHaus, Modern Art Space, is proud to present “Revelations of the Blind” a solo exhibition by artist, Marcus Chad Farris, will be on view at ManicHaus in McAllen, from March 5-19, 2010. A reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 5, 2010. ManicHaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in McAllen. Admission is free.

“It is my intent to challenge people, their thoughts and ideas with my artwork. I attempt to awaken their cognitive states and processes including perception, sensation, memory, imagination, judgment, and language, as well as intelligence and other aspects of intellectual functioning such as knowledge, opinions and beliefs. My work explores issues regarding relationships, gender roles, sex, politics, and short attention spans through popular images, flash art and lowbrow references,” Farris said. “Since my work deals with issues that can be controversial, viewers are forced to individually assign and attribute meanings and understanding to the world around them, and look at my work within the framework of this new set of definitions.”

Chad Farris has a Masters in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University. He has exhibited nationally and in Puerto Rico and Mexico. He resides in Edinburg, Texas and currently teaches at the University of Texas-Pan American.

Gallery hours are: Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 6pm; and Saturdays by appointment. Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@gmail.com for more information. ManicHaus is a 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council grant recipient.

I have cut them, twisted and bent them transforming their appearance yet at their core, they remain the same.” -Brian Wedgworth
